How Air Exchangers Work

Platinum wall control “Smart Mode” operation

  1. basicThe overall goal of Smart Mode operation is to maintain the indoor humidity levels between 30-50% RH while maintaining minimum ventilation requirements.

  2. To achieve the goal the Platinum control monitors outdoor temperature and indoor relative humidity (RH) levels. Smart Mode will try to maintain the goal by running the vanEE unit in continuous low speed mode.

  3. As conditions change in the house, Smart Mode adjusts the ventilation rate to try and maintain comfortable indoor conditions. Possible ventilation modes are continuous low, continuous high, intermittent (20 minutes on low speed followed by 40 minutes off), recirculation (high speed recirculation of indoor air, no outdoor air) and full off.

  4. At any time of the year, Smart Mode will switch to off or recirculation modes (depends on what mode is chosen during programming; recirculation is the default) whenever the outdoor temperature is above the high temperature limit or below the low temperature limit that has been set during programming (27ºC and -25 ºC are the default settings). When in off or recirculation, Smart Mode will engage low speed mode for 5 minutes out of each hour so that it can check outdoor and indoor conditions to see if ventilation is possible.

  5. As a reminder for the homeowner to check the cleanliness of the HRV filters, the Platinum
control in all modes of operation including Smart Mode will illuminate the yellow filter light
after 90 days of HRV fan operation. To turn off the light and reset the filter timer press on
hold for 5 seconds the “set” and “mode/pref” buttons.
