How Air Exchangers Work |
||||||
Why do I need an air exchanger?Proper ventilation plays a key role in removing excess humidity, airborne pollutant particles and odours from homes. With the increase of energy conserving homes being built and older homes being upgraded, it is even more important to properly ventilate the indoor air. Proper ventilation is needed in all four seasons of the year. Carbon dioxide (CO2), dust mites, mould spores, pet dander, smoke, Volatile Organic Chemicals (VOCs) and other airborne pollutants are forced to stay inside the home. Excess humidity increases the potential growth of mould and the possibility of structural damage to wood framing. Indoor air contains up to 100 times more pollutants than the outdoor air. People now spend up to 90% of the time indoors. If your house is stuffy, odours linger, or humidity is high in fall and winter, it is likely that your house does not have adequate ventilation. If someone in your house has headaches, chronic fatigue, poor concentration, respiratory conditions, such as chronic colds and flu viruses, aggravated allergies, asthma or bronchitis getting the proper amount of ventilation is even more important. Ventilation is so important that it is mandated in the Canadian National Building Code (NBC), every provincial building code and over 15 USA state building codes. A vanEE air exchanger for either heat or energy recovery is the optimal way to improve indoor air quality (IAQ) and meet the requirements of many building energy efficiency programs such as LEED®, ENERGY STAR® for New Homes, Novoclimat™, BuiltGreen™, R2000 and many more.
